2024 Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux Domaine Rapet Père et Fils

This impressive Premier Cru faces the hillside of Corton Charlemagne. The cool, east-facing white marl slope makes it an ideal site for growing exceptionally pure Chardonnay. Due to the very small crop, Rapet were forced to use 100% barrel fermentation and elevage and no cement eggs this year. Fresh lemon sorbet scent, with hints of nutmeg and almond. The cooler nature of the vintage allows the wines florality and brightness to shine through. Its persistent finish highlights its Premier Cru status.

Vincent and Robin categorise the vines for this fine cuvée into three groups: the younger vines under 30 years which give 30% of the cuvée, the next 30% from 30-year-old vines, and the final 40% from vines aged between 40- 60 years, all from the Pernand Vergelesses sector of the hillside. 30% new oak and 12 months in barrel (apart from a tiny proportion of 125 litres in glass globe) followed by 6 months in stainless steel, precede bottling. A deliciously creamy wine, with a degree of Corton exuberance, clotted cream, roasted hazelnut and ripe yellow stone fruits. An enticing volume, the glycerol rich sensation avoids any form of excess, thanks a lift of lime peel freshness at the end.
